The Friends of Hampton Roads, Inc. is offering you the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of local youth by providing college scholarship assistance to future leaders in the African-American community. FHR is a non-profit organization that has provided scholarships to high school seniors for over 20 years. We are proud to say that our Annual Fundraising Gala has enabled our organization to provide more than $430,000 dollars in scholarship to deserving high school seniors. These accolades would not be possible without corporate and community support.
This year’s Gala will be held on November 13, 2010 at the Portsmouth Renaissance Hotel in Portsmouth, Virginia. One of the components of our fundraising efforts is our silent auction. We would appreciate your donation of (state a sample donation item you wish from the business… a gift card for $100, a spa package) Your donation will help us achieve this year’s auction goal of $50,000.
Your generous donation will be acknowledged at our event and included in our souvenir journal that is given to all attendees and sponsors. By supporting this endeavor, your organization will have an audience of over 700 attendees.
As the cost of a college education continues to sky rocket, your support will help us continue to make a positive difference in the lives of local youth. Our primary focus is raising scholarship money for students seeking a college education; however, we also provide assistance to our community in the following ways:
- Mentoring Youth - Rites of Passage – FHR helps young girls realize their potential via a training program focused on self determination.
- Assisting Families - Holiday Help – FHR gives baskets to needy families during the Thanksgiving Holiday and members visit area Nursing Homes with gifts for residents at Christmas.
- Supporting Our Troops – FHR collects and delivers toiletries to wounded troops in military hospitals.
