Friends of Hampton Roads, Inc., (FHR), is offering you the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of local youth by providing college scholarship assistance to future leaders in the African-American community. FHR is a non-profit organization that has provided scholarships to high school seniors for over 20 years. We are proud to say that our Annual Fundraising Gala has enabled our organization to provide more than $400,000 dollars in scholarship to deserving high school seniors. These accolades would not be possible without corporate support.
 
This year's Gala will be held on November 13, 2010 at the Portsmouth Renaissance Hotel in Portsmouth, Virginia. At the event sponsoring organizations will again be able to highlight their commitment to building future leaders of our community. By supporting this endeavor, you will have the opportunity to market your services to nearly 700 attendees. Along with the opportunities available in the different levels of sponsorship, we provided a private reception to say thank you to those organizations that partner with us in this wonderful endeavor of giving back to our youth. This pre-Gala event also provides a unique opportunity for sponsors to network with each other, as well as with local and state politicians.
 
Let me remind you that your support will help us continue to make a positive difference in the lives of local youth. Our primary focus is raising scholarship money for students seeking a college education; however, we also provide assistance to our community in the following ways:
 

  • Mentoring Youth - Rites of Passage - FHR helps young girls realize their potential via a training program focused on self determination.
  • Assisting Families - Holiday Help - FHR gives baskets to needy families during the Thanksgiving Holiday and members visit area Nursing Homes with gifts for residents at Christmas.
  • Supporting Our Troops - FHR collects and delivers toiletries to wounded troops in military hospitals.
